It is very rare that the hubby and I get to have breakfast together during the weekday. But today, when I mentioned bacon, he immediately got hungry before I could even get out of bed. Yeah, the power of bacon...LOL!

How I Like My Bacon (Garlic Fried Rice)
It is very rare that the hubby and I get to have breakfast together during the weekday. But today, when I mentioned bacon, he immediately got hungry before I could even get out of bed. Yeah, the power of bacon...LOL!

Goldilocks Restaurant, Eagle Rock (Food Review)

Goldilocks is a Filipino restaurant with roots in the Philippines ever since I can remember. They started out as a bakeshop and it eventually expanded by offering hot food items, equivalent to what you will find at cafes and Chinese tea houses. In other words, Filipino comfort food. They then expanded their operations overseas, so Filipinos abroad, particularly in the US, can satisfy their cravings for Filipino food.

Sauteed Ground Pork (Giniling)
Ever since I started my DIY projects, I’ve only been making quick and lazy meals, that is if I decide to cook at all instead of going to the closest fast food drive thru. Well here’s another one in my bag of easy, breezy, lazy comfort food.

Pinakbet with Bacon

Pinakbet has been on my mind ever since Gingham Girl and I ordered it for dinner at Gerry's Grill last month. What is Pinakbet you ask? It's a simple Filipino dish made up of stewed vegetables such as eggplant, bitter melon, okra, kabocha squash, long beans and tomatoes. Strips of pork are usually added to this dish and the whole thing is seasoned with bagoong (salted, fermented fish or shrimp).

Chicken Afritada
My freezer is starting to look big. That means I am running low on supplies. Let’s see…chicken, mussels, or squid? I really want to make seafood, but my hubby wants chicken, so chicken it is.

Classic Bistek
Another classic Filipino beef dish. This is how my mom's bistek tasted, so this is what I am imparting to all of you.

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you…..happy birthday Veggie Girl. That’s right, yesterday was Veggie Girl’s birthday. Weeks before yesterday, I’ve been thinking of what I can give her on her birthday.

Leche Flan (Custard)
I should have followed my Arroz a’la Valenciana post last Thursday with this. Afterall, what better way to cap off a Spanish meal, but with a Spanish desert. But housewifely duties came first, that is, cooking, cleaning and laundry, you get the picture.

Banana Jackfruit Pockets
I just love bite size desserts. Everytime I attend functions at a hotel, or go to one of the buffets in Las Vegas, I always gravitate towards the dessert table first. Not only am I attracted to it because of how quaint they look but I think it serves the diner a practical purpose to serve them in small portions. Having them this way allows us to sample more than just one dessert rather than getting full on one regular sized serving. Inspired by Veggie Girl's Chocolate Wontons, I thought I'd create something petite for dessert.Saturday, May 14, 2011
Stir Fry Glass Noodle (Sotanghon)
I just love Asian style noodles. Whether it's stir fried, crispy, noodles in soup, chow mein, yakisoba, pancit, or in this case sotanghon, I can eat them anytime, any day. Sotanghon is a Filipino dish whose name originated from the Chinese word "tanghoon," meaning glass noodle. Thanks Veggie Girl for enlightening me on its meaning. I find this to be a very versatile dish, in that you can eat it any time of the day. You can serve it for lunch, dinner, and even for an afternoon affair, which I call an in-betweener, and any leftovers will work as a hearty breakfast the following day. Yes, I've had it for breakfast and I enjoyed it with tea and Sweet Hawaiian dinner rolls. Ah! It's just yummy. I hope you enjoy my take on this dish.Wednesday, May 11, 2011
Shanghai Eggrolls
Here's another popular potluck item I love to bring, provided I have the time to make it. I won't lie, wrapping up the eggrolls take a while, but with practice, it's a walk in the park. I take consolation in that these are usually gone in just a few minutes.
