Sesame Wings + Gallivanting About in Chinatown

Sesame wings can be really addictive. How so? Well, my kids beg me to make it for dinner every time they peek into the freezer and notice the gigantic bag of frozen chicken wings staring back at them. Even though I made these wings for our 4th of July party and made them again the week after, the words "sesame chicken" came back to haunt me the following week. Mind you, it was a 10 lb. bag that I had bought so I suppose I was asking for it. I know, I KNOW. That's alot of wings. That means I'll probably be making these wings about once a week until they're all gone. Yikes. When I serve them for dinner, my daughter will sit there and polish off 15 wings on her own and won't even look at the other dishes. I don't blame her though. These wings do rock.

Super Easy No Bake Cheesecake

I've been having some hectic days of late especially since I'm juggling work and keeping the kids entertained / busy/ sedated (just kidding!) as much as possible over their summer break. When I get that busy, I have to rely on super quick and simple recipes such as this really easy no bake cheesecake. I've made this many times in the past but had then forgotten about it until Gingham Girl invited me over for cheesecake and coffee at her home last week. Since having a slice of her cheesecake, I've been craving more!

Shrimp Pasta

I’ve been away again…not on vacation though.  I’ve been busy with some DIY (Do-it-Yourself) projects around the house.  I’m not gonna bore you with what they are specifically.  They were just tiring to say the least that I have not had the chance to cook….I know….again…for a few days.  I had enough of fast food that even though my muscles are still ache-y from my projects, I just had to cook.

Pinakbet with Bacon

Pinakbet has been on my mind ever since Gingham Girl and I ordered it for dinner at Gerry's Grill last month. What is Pinakbet you ask? It's a simple Filipino dish made up of stewed vegetables such as eggplant, bitter melon, okra, kabocha squash, long beans and tomatoes. Strips of pork are usually added to this dish and the whole thing is seasoned with bagoong (salted, fermented fish or shrimp).

Toaster Oven Mussels

I am debating on what to call this appetizer.  It is so easy that’s why I don’t want to give a fancy name.  I want it to appeal to the novice cook, even perhaps a college student sharing an apartment with his or her schoolmates with nothing more than a microwave, a few gadgets and a toaster oven.  By the time I finish writing the recipe, I will have figured out a name.  So bear with me for a sec.

Chicken Afritada

My freezer is starting to look big.  That means I am running low on supplies.  Let’s see…chicken, mussels, or squid?  I really want to make seafood, but my hubby wants chicken, so chicken it is.

Homemade Tart Frozen Yogurt

Frozen yogurt was an occasional indulgence for me when I was growing up in Singapore. I would always try to get my hands on some but unfortunately, I wasn't always given the opportunity.

Soboro Donburi (Ground Pork w/Scrambled Egg)

Hello once again!  I’ve been away from the blog world for a few days.  Just got busy with other things…life….haha.  To be honest, I haven’t been cooking much lately.  It’s just one of those days when you need a break from the kitchen.  I’m thinking, room service, a massage and not getting up from bed all day….dream on GG.

Jap Chae

Today, we have a guest contributor, a good friend of Veggie Girl and I, Mrs. E.  She made her jap chae so good, that we invited her to share this wonderful dish, and she gladly obliged. -GG-

Chicken Lollipops

“Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.” ---The Carpenters

Not for me.  For one it’s summer.  Secondly, I was busy with household chores today.  For some reason I decided to skip the chores during the weekend and decided to do them today.  For dinner, I decided to make this not so easy dish.

Only in Malibu

I love spur of the moment plans, if you can even call that a plan.  Today was a beautiful Saturday in Southern California.  It was warm but not insanely hot, unlike the past few days, where we reached the high 90's.  Today was beautiful, possibly high 80's, and with that, we just decided to drive out to Malibu and get some ocean breeze.

Spam with Cabbage

Spam is one of my family's guilty pleasures. Because it's a canned, processed meat product, I try not to buy it too often but every once in awhile, we would indulge in a good Spam meal. My kids love Spam and every time they smell the aroma of it frying in the pan, they'll run to the kitchen in total excitement.

Honey Lemon Salmon

Tonight was store bought taco night---Baja Fresh to be precise.  My freezer is running low.  It’s been about a month since I did my last big shopping.

Braised Tofu

I don’t know what possessed me to cook three different things tonight.  For one, it’s hot in Southern California, it must have been in the low 90’s today, actually it’s been hot for a week, and yet I got inspired to flex my cooking muscles again.

Lemon Honey Vinaigrette and Independence Day Festivities

Wow, it's July already! Time's been zipping by this year, faster than ever. July means hot summer weather and of course, fireworks. We had plenty of both yesterday when a bunch of us got together in my home to celebrate Independence day. The boys (young and old) excitedly indulged in their fascination with watching things light up on fire and explode while us gals sat back and chilled out on lawn chairs, occasionally twirling a sparkler here and there. Fun times, I tell ya!

Fruit Salsa with Baked Cinnamon Chips + a Korean BBQ feast!

As Gingham Girl mentioned in a previous post, one of our friends, E, hosted a wonderful Korean BBQ dinner at her home last week. I love Korean BBQ and it was so much fun to have had it in the comfort of her home with a bunch of our closest friends. Boy, did we pig out! I know I did. I brought fruit salsa with cinnamon chips for dessert but before we get to the recipe, I wanted to share some pics of our yummy Korean BBQ spread.
